Meet the Coaches
Paul D'Angelo - Athletic Director
2010-2011 marks Paul D'Angelo's third year as Athletic Director at
Clear Water Academy. In this role he oversees the operation of
approximately 27 teams competing in eight sports throughout the school year,
and coordinates the Outdoor Education program. Coach D'Angelo is the
head coach of the High School boys volleyball team and 8/9 boys
basketball team. Paul also helps out with Junior High floor hockey as
well as the throwing events in track and field. In 2008 the High School boys volleyball team captured the League Championship.
Paul
has a deep passion for sports as a player, coach and referee. In
addition to school sports, he referees approximately 250 hockey games a
year and plays in 50 games, as the Team Captain for the Bears in the NCHL.
Hockey may be Paul's first sports love, but he is also involved with
baseball, golf and skiing. He lists his greatest accomplishment in
sports as leading the Acadia University Women's Hockey Team as Head
Coach to a 30 game undefeated season and their only Nova Scotia Women's
Hockey League 'A' Division Championship.
Paul obtained both a
Bachelor of Kinesiology and Education from the University of Calgary,
with an emphasis on physical education and coaching. He also completed a
Master of Education Degree in Leadership and School Development at
Acadia University. He is a Certified Level II NCCP Coach, and is also a
Certified Athletic Administrator.
Paul is married to
Colleen and they have two children and future Crusaders athletes: Rose and
Reid.
April Cameron - Athletic Specialist
2010-2011 marks April Cameron's fourth year heading up the girl's
physical education program at Clear Water Academy. April is the head
coach of the High School Girls volleyball team and is also the head
coach in the badminton program. She also lends her expertise to a
variety of track and field events. April's volleyball team has captured
three consecutive Calgary 1A Zone volleyball championships advancing to
the provincial championships. They have also won many tournaments on
the Southern Alberta 1A/2A volleyball circuit. In 2009, the Junior High badminton program captured the South Central 2J Zone Championship. Her high school badminton players have also captured three consecutive 1A
Calgary Zone Team Championships.
April is a former two sport
athlete at Dickinson State University in North Dakota. In 2000, she was
the starting setter for their women's volleyball team which captured an
NAIA National Championship. She also played women's fast-pitch. In
2010, April was inducted into the Dickinson State University Athletics
Hall of Fame.
April is passionate about many sports in
addition to volleyball and badminton, most notably, skiing, golf and
fitness.
Neil Fitzgerald - Athletic Specialist
2010-2011 marks Neil Fitzgerald's fourth year heading up the boys
physical education program at Clear Water Academy. Neil is the head
coach of the High School boys basketball team. He also lends his
expertise to a variety of track and field events.
Neil has
been the head coach of the High School boys basketball team for the last
three seasons. Under his guidance they have captured consecutive 1A
League Championships, and advanced to the provincial championships as
Calgary Zone Champions in 2010.
Neil is a passionate
basketball fan, having played high school basketball in his hometown of
Dawson Creek B.C. He has a strong commitment to fitness and is a
huge fan of the NFL.
Maria de Leon
2010-2011 marks Maria de Leon's fourth year coaching at Clear Water
Academy. Maria is currently the head coach of the high school girls
basketball team. In 2010, the girls captured the Calgary 1A Zone
Championship and advanced to Provincials under her guidance.
Maria is passionate about basketball, and is a former high school player
in her hometown of Moose Jaw. She also has a big committment to
fitness, and lists golf as one of her passions. She is also Clear Water Academy's French Language Specialist and Grade 8 girls homeroom teacher.
Dean Schneider
2010-2011 marks Dean Schneider 's second year coaching at Clear Water
Academy. Dean is currently the coach of the 7/8 boys volleyball team and
he also coaches track and field athletes for hurdles.
This year, the 7/8 boys volleyball team captured the division
championship under his guidance.
As the boys religion specialist for Clear Water Academy, Dean is
passionate about living his life for God and believes playing sports
with character, excellence and integrity is part of that witness. Born
and raised here in Calgary, Dean played a variety of sports during his
school years, including volleyball and track & field - the latter of
which took him to Provincial level competition.
