SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM
Clear Water Academy opened senior
high school with both boys and girls grade 10 classes
starting in September of 2004. Grades 11 and 12 will
be added in subsequent years
Our senior high school program has
a university preparatory focus and enables students
to gain admission to top universities across Canada
and the United States. All courses needed for an Alberta
High School Diploma are offered. We offer other classes
as well, to give students a richer educational experience
and enable them to pursue their interests. In addition,
Clear Water Academy provides a rich community life where
character forms, a relationship with God develops, the
habit of service to others is nurtured, and healthy
friendships blossom.
Course offerings for university bound
students compare favorably to other schools in the Calgary
area. All the core requirements of an Alberta Diploma
are given, i.e.: English 10, then 20 and 30, with similar
courses in Math (Pure), and Social Studies. All three
(3) Sciences will be offered at the Grades 11 and 12
levels, namely Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Religious Education 15, 25, and 35
are courses recommended by the Diocese of Calgary. As
these are 5 credit courses, the Clear Water Academy
program is offered in much greater depth than is the
case with most schools, which provide only 3 credits
of instruction. All our teaching fully respects the
Magisterium of the Church.
Second Languages form an important
part of our academic offerings. French, Spanish and
Latin will be offered at the Grades 10, 11, and 12 levels.
Music (Band), Art and Drama are offered at all three
grades.
Physical Education and Outdoor Education
courses are also offered at Clear Water Academy. To
find out more about our outdoor education course, follow
this link ( ).
Character Development is an integral
part of our school life and includes regular one on
one meetings with the Deans of Students to help in forming
strong healthy habits. Spiritual growth includes community
and personal prayer time, weekly Masses, regular opportunities
for Confessions and special talks and retreats. Clear
Water Academy especially values the weekly presence
in our schools of Diocesan or Legion of Christ priests.
Extracurricular Activities are an
integral part of our school life. Band and drama performances,
art displays, yearbook and student council are a few
of the opportunities. Sports include Basketball, Volleyball,
Cross Country Running, Track and Field, Rugby, Golf,
Badminton and Soccer. Our teams compete in the private
schools athletic league and several teams have advanced
to zone and provincial championships. Having a full
time Director of Athletics has been key to developing
one of the strongest extracurricular programs in Alberta.
A new, well-equipped fitness centre ensures that students
are physically prepared to do their best.
Lastly, a final important point:
Our school has long been known for Excellence in Debating,
with our team last year winning the Provincial Championship
and very creditably representing Alberta in the Nationals.
