Keeley Schwann

Post-secondary education is a place where I thrive, and I've enjoyed it so much that I have pursued multiple degrees. Since graduating in 2014, I attended the University of Western Ontario and pursued a double major in Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences and Physiology. Western taught me how to be an event planner, a mental health advocate, and an ally. Most importantly, Western is where I met and fell in love with my husband Nassir! We got married in Canmore during the summer of 2023.

I developed a passion for regenerative medicine, which led me to the University of Guelph to pursue a Master's of Science. I was a member of the Vickaryous lab at the Ontario Veterinary College, where my thesis focused on skin regeneration in the leopard gecko.

At Guelph, I learned the importance of female empowerment in the field of STEM, the beauty of innovative research, and the strength of public speaking (which fortunately led me to present my research at an International Conference).

Throughout my schooling, I have participated in extracurricular activities, including being an orientation leader, residence advisor, flag-football athletic commissioner, graduate student peer helper, comparative anatomy teaching assistant, community outreach chair, and College of Veterinary Medicine student ambassador.

Since participating in the Haiti mission trip with CWA in 2013, I have continued with service trips to Panama and Peru, and am looking forward to an upcoming veterinary service trip in Thailand.

I currently live in Columbus, Ohio, with my husband, our St. Bernard, Fernie, and our leopard gecko, Stumpy. I’m now pursuing a childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. I begin my clinical year in March, with aspirations of becoming a board-certified veterinary dentist—so you could say that Semper Altius spirit is still very much with me.
