Kiersten Schwann

After graduating from high school, I pursued my Bachelor of Science at Queen’s University, where I earned a degree in Life Sciences. During my time at Queen’s, I immersed myself in both academic and extracurricular life—from participating in community volunteer initiatives and multiple intramural sports leagues, to co-chairing the university’s inaugural neuroscience conference and welcoming new students as an Orientation Leader.

I also gained valuable research experience through a placement at Cleveland Clinic’s Movement Disorders Clinic, where I contributed to participant recruitment, data collection, and data analysis.

That experience affirmed my interest in clinical medicine and ultimately led me to write the MCAT and pursue medical school.

In 2017, I began my medical training at the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry in Edmonton. In 2021, I returned to my hometown of Calgary to begin my residency in Family Medicine. Shortly after graduating from medical school, I married my university sweetheart, and together we welcomed our first child in February 2026.

I am now dual-certified in Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine after completing a fellowship in Emergency Medicine in Regina, Saskatchewan. I currently work in a busy emergency department at Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, Alberta, and also spend my time teaching medical students and residents through my clinical and academic roles at University of Calgary.

In the summer of 2026, my young family and I will be moving to Hamilton, Ontario, for my husband’s fellowship in Interventional Radiology. Beyond that, the future is wide open. We’re not yet sure where we’ll eventually settle, but we’re excited for the many possibilities that lie ahead.
