2023-2024 PAC MEMBERS
James Thangaraj, Chair
A family tradition of service, combined with a Jesuit and Irish Christian Brothers education, excites James about serving as Chair of the Parent Advisory Council. Currently a Director at CARE Impact Partners (the advisory services arm of the global nonprofit CARE), James has 20+ years of global development, tech & innovation and consulting experience on four continents, and studied at the London School of Economics. James is thrilled to leverage this background to support the CWA community in all possible ways. When not working, he enjoys Cold War espionage and walking with his yellow lab. With his daughter in Grade 12, this is James' last year at CWA and the PAC.
Michael Gill, Vice Chair
Gerardo Odorizzi, Treasurer
Gerardo and his wife, Barbara (CWA business manager), are the parents of Adriano (Grade 10), who started at CWA in kindergarten. In addition to Adriano, Gerardo has three grown children and two grandchildren. He is a member and treasurer of the Knights of Columbus at St. Peter's parish and has been a scout leader for 13 years. Gerardo and his family love traveling and spending time at their cottage in BC. Having CWA recommended to their family was, and continues to be, a blessing.
Silvia Pinto-Plazas, Secretary
Silvia and her husband Carlos are parents of three children attending Clear Water Academy: Sergio, a 2018 alumnus; Laura, currently in 9th grade; and David, in 4th grade. Since 2011, she has volunteered at CWA in various ways - Multicultural days, events organization, and Parent Advisory Council, among others. Her involvement is driven by her belief in the school's mission to provide a high standard of academic education and nurture the Catholic faith of its students. Initially trained in Law, she ventured into the field of Marketing and Communications after moving to Canada, fulfilling her desire to balance work and family life. Silvia is passionate about baking, DIY projects, camping, and hiking, activities she often enjoys with her family.
Ramel Oriel, Pillar-Lead: Athletics
Ramel and his wife, Christine, have four children at CWA in grades 5 (Roman), 7 (Rayna), and 10 (Carter & Lauryn). Clear Water Academy has been a blessing for their family. They are grateful for their children's formation at the school and for the friends they have connected with since their older kids started at the Junior Kindergarten level. Ramel and Christine were raised in Winnipeg but have called Calgary home for 20 years. When Ramel is not working at his wife’s dental clinic, he enjoys talking sports with anyone who will listen.
Nick Gafuik, Pillar Lead: Strategic Initiatives
Bill Tomiak, Executive Director
Darren Forrester, Head of School/Director of Education & Formation – Secondary
Mr. Forrester has been a part of Clear Water Academy since 2009. He holds three degrees: a Bachelor of Arts from McGill, a Graduate Teaching diploma from McGill, and a Master's of Education from the University of Calgary (along with a partial completion of a PhD). Mr. Forrester has taught in other private schools in Calgary, both in English and French. His children have attended and graduated from Clear Water Academy since their early elementary years. He loves Clear Water Academy because it has been a second home to his family. The school has provided a caring and safe environment for his children to grow up at their own pace, without the pressure to do so more quickly than necessary. Clear Water Academy truly loves and teaches the whole child.
