Lenten Practices at CWA

We will be celebrating Mass with the distribution of ashes at 10:00 am on Wednesday, February 14th. Please join us for this year’s Ash Wednesday celebration.

We are also happy to be doing an annual Lenten Campaign. As a whole school, Elementary and Secondary combined, we will be gathering various donations for the Mustard Seed, while also incorporating various Lenten-themed activities in the life of each building to help your children grow in virtue during this holy season. Please look for more details on the Mustard Seed campaign in the Weekly.

Donations will be collected at the foot of the Cross in the St. Thomas More Hall Rotunda, as well as near the student lounge of Athlone Hall.

The Elementary School will work on a “Daily Dose of Lenten Love” campaign. There will be a contest of intentional virtue between girls and boys in the Elementary School from JK - Grade 6 to live out Lent in prayer, fasting, and almsgiving like Our Lord modeled for us.

1. "Spin-Sin-Away" Wheel
During the morning announcements, a reflection will be read by our Grade 5 & 6 students to help enter into the day, followed by the number of the virtue randomly selected by spinning the wheel. We will also be praying the Novena of the Divine Mercy.

2. Prayer Intentions
Outside the chapel, there will be a bulletin board and purple post-it notes where students can write their prayer intentions that will be remembered during class visits to the Chapel and Masses.

3. Donations
Finally, to make our almsgiving concrete, we will support The Mustard Seed by asking each student to bring in a donation. Donations will be collected at the foot of the Cross in the St. Thomas More Hall Rotunda in the fashion of boys vs. girls competition. Please reference this link for a list of donation items.

The Secondary School will be incorporating prayerful, reflective, and apostolic elements into our daily life to help our students engage in the spirit of the Lenten Season. The following are the key components of our campaign:

1. Morning Announcements
Every morning a Secondary student will lead the school in a moment of prayerful reflection to help us enter more deeply into this time of preparation for Easter. During the final 14 days before the Easter break, we will reflect daily on a different Station of the Cross.

2. Prayer Intentions
In the spirit of learning to pray for one another, the students and staff of Athlone Hall will have the opportunity to place their petitions to be remembered during class visits to the Chapel and Masses.

3. Donations
Finally, to make our almsgiving concrete, we’re going to support The Mustard Seed by asking each student to bring in a donation. Donations will be collected near the student lounge of Athlone Hall. We will also be implementing a boys vs. girls competition to help further motivate our students to participate to the best of their ability (they love competition!). Please reference this link for a list of donation items.
